FreightMarks Platform
Benchmark every cost. Against the right peers.
FreightMarks is the truckload industry's benchmarking platform — built on the same standardized chart of accounts that powers FreightMath. Every metric is segmented by operating mode and labor group, then expressed on both a per-mile and a percent-of-revenue basis, so you can compare apples to apples no matter how your peers are structured.
Live Benchmark Gauges
Where you land against the industry.
Each gauge shows the industry low–high range with a marker for a sample carrier's current value. In the platform these update each period as your MapLedger refreshes.
Industry Trends
Twelve months. Three lines that matter.
FreightMarks publishes rolling trends so you can see whether the gap between you and your peers is widening or closing. Below: synthetic illustrations of the kinds of trends the platform publishes monthly.
Per-mile cost categories
Operating ratio — by mode
Built on the MapLedger Standard
From your GL to industry comparable.
FreightMarks doesn't average noisy GL data. Every contributing carrier is first mapped through MapLedger's Standard COA — so what you see in a benchmark range is exactly what you see in your own P&L.
Standardize
Every carrier's GL is mapped to the MapLedger Standard COA — 550 accounts, 5 operating groups, 7 labor groups.
Segment
Costs and revenue are allocated by capacity type and operating mode using Ratio or Percentage methods.
Aggregate
Anonymized values are pooled across carriers, with cohorts filtered by fleet size, mode mix, and freight type.
Benchmark
Per-mile and percent-of-revenue ranges are reported with low / median / high markers and trend over time.
Operating Modes
Benchmarks by how the freight moves.
Each operating mode has its own cost dynamics. FreightMarks reports separate ranges for each — never blended.
OTR
Long-haul, irregular route freight. The largest benchmark set — covers Driver Wages, Fuel, Maintenance, and Equipment economics on a per-mile basis.
Local
Short-haul and regional operations. Higher stop frequency, lower miles per load — benchmarks indexed on per-load and per-hour economics.
Dedicated
Contract-dedicated fleets. Stable revenue per truck and distinct cost profiles — benchmarks isolate dedicated economics from common-carrier operations.
Brokerage
Non-asset freight. Benchmarks expressed per load and as a percentage of revenue — gross margin, insurance, agent commissions, and back-office cost.
Labor Groups
Benchmarks by who performs the work.
Company Driver economics look nothing like Owner Operator economics. FreightMarks isolates each capacity type so the comparison is meaningful.
Company Driver
Driver wages, benefits, payroll tax. Full per-mile cost visibility on company-owned, employed-driver equipment.
Owner Operator
Settlement-based purchased transportation per mile. Benefits and incentive pass-through expressed as a percentage of OO revenue.
Lease Purchase
Hybrid economics between Company and OO. Benchmarks track settlement rate, maintenance support, and net contribution.
Brokerage
Carrier payouts on brokered freight. Benchmarks expressed as a percentage of gross brokerage revenue.
Non-Driver
Operations, dispatch, sales, finance, and corporate overhead. Per-mile and percent-of-revenue ranges for the back office.
Maintenance
In-house shop wages and overhead. Benchmarks isolate maintenance labor cost from parts and outside service.
Per Mile
Per-mile benchmark ranges.
The industry's per-mile cost ranges across driver, fuel, maintenance, equipment, and overhead categories. Low / high bands reflect cohort percentiles in the FreightMarks database.
Percentage of Revenue
Cost as a share of every revenue dollar.
Per-mile costs only tell half the story. FreightMarks pairs every per-mile range with a percent-of-revenue range so the same number can be assessed against pricing posture too.
